1. MATTERS ARISING
New Lairhillock School – Avril reported on the Consultative Group’s visit to Rothienorman Primary school on 4 October. Maitland Wilson and Mike Ramsay introduced the group to Mrs Gregor - Head Teacher, who was very enthusiastic and helpful throughout the evening. The main hall doubles as the dining area with a very impressive kitchen adjoining. Mike Sullivan asked if local produce was used but Mike Ramsay did not know. Each of 5 Classrooms has an integral cloakroom plus sinks and computer points, TV and dimmer switches for convenience. Mrs Gregor said how much they all enjoyed working in a spacious light filled environment. The school had its own janitor but our school would have 16 hours weekly from janitorial services.
The computer suite had 15 screens and work area means that up to 30 children can be accommodated in one room, therefore only one teacher needed for supervision. The Nursery wing was very well equipped both indoors and out, with own access and play areas. Masses of storage space throughout the building. Mrs Gregory had no information on Community use of the facilities. School activities finished by 6pm. Mr Wilson said our school should be ready for occupation by February. It is hoped staff would be able to visit soon.
Web site – Will be fully up to date in two days.
Roads – Roads department had replied with photos of Banchory-Devenick crossroads showing foliage which did not appear to encroach on the road, Robert will pass to Duncan. Mark Skilling had arranged for traffic sensors to be installed with a view to a possible speed restriction being introduced. Sally commented that the School warning signs did not operate for the younger pupils leaving at 2.30pm. Robert to raise matter with roads dept.
Western Peripheral Route – latest map of WPR displayed, Sally mentioned that some junctions would have traffic lights.
It was agreed to invite Mr Buchan to our January meeting.
South Deeside View – Electronic copy to be sent to Kevin for display on Website and forwarding to those who had requested it by email. Hazel asked for contributions for next issue.
2. PLANNING
Westside Maryculter – Application for change of design. Hazel had asked at Planning department for a sight of new plans but was told they were not finalised, but building was well underway. This was discussed and concern expressed that Planning inconsistencies were once again apparent and that planning enforcement was non existent in Aberdeenshire. The Maryculter Organic Farm building was a further case in point as the shop was supposed to be finished before the house was commenced. Kevin will contact David Doogan at Viewmount for clarification.
15 Affordable Houses Westside Maryculter: Karl Nelson Councillor – Newtonhill gave a brief history of the Housing Association of which he is a director. He said that it appeared that this development had been shelved for the moment.
